How to tie a Bow Tie

The bow tie has found its rightful place in society, becoming a symbol of style and sophistication, particularly at the end of the 19th century. Black bow ties were traditionally worn with dinner jackets, and a white bow tie looked stunning with evening tails. Today, the bow tie is a versatile accessory that can be worn for a variety of occasions, allowing any man to make a fashion statement.
How to Tie a Bow Tie: Step-by-Step Instructions
-
Place the flat bow tie around your neck, ensuring that the right side (side A) is about 1.5 inches longer than the left side (side B).
-
Bring side A across side B and keep it close to your neck to prevent the tie from becoming loose.
-
Slide side A underneath side B and then bring side A upwards through the neck loop. This creates a loose, simple knot.
-
Fold side B at the joint to form a bow shape. First, pull it left, then fold it over to the right between the points of the collar.
-
Bring side A down and over the front of side B.
-
Fold side A and slide it back through the loop behind side B.
-
Continue pulling side A through the loop but don’t pull it all the way through.
-
Pull on the left back and front right to loosen the bow tie, and pull on the back right and front left to tighten it.
-
Continue adjusting both sides until the bow is tight and well-balanced.
Once you've tied a bow tie a couple of times, it will quickly become second nature. Remember, for the perfect look, the bow tie must be tied neatly every time.
